2019 Mustang Performance

Many drivers think of an aggressive, V8-powerd pony car when the Mustang comes to mind. While the new model can certainly provide that experience, it offers more versatile performance options than one might expect.

The engine lineup itself is surprisingly diverse. Base EcoBoost models, for example, come with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. Don't be fooled by the low displacement, however: The Mustang EcoBoost has 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque on tap. Drive gently and you'll get impressive fuel economy; drive enthusiastically and you'll get heart-racing performance.

Many drivers, of course, will opt instead for the available 5.0-liter V8 engine. This powerplant comes standard in the Mustang GT, offering 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of naturally-aspirated torque. It gets 20 more horsepower in the Mustang Bullitt due to a special tune. This engine offers the traditional low-end torque and deep rumble typically associated with American V8s and the Mustang itself.

Then there's the Mustang Shelby GT350 and its 5.2-liter V8 engine. This powerplant uses a substantially different design from the 5.0-liter engine featuring a flat-plane crank. That means peak power comes on much higher near the engines 8,250-rpm redline. The 5.2-liter V8 is screaming when you get the full force of its 525 horsepower.

No matter which Mustang you choose, you'll get standard independent suspension and the option to choose a six-speed manual transmission. A ten-speed automatic transmission with selectable drive modes is also available.

Certain Mustang models are available with an active valve exhaust system that lets you adjust the volume of your exhaust note.

2019 Mustang Design

The 2019 Mustang uses many of the nameplates hallmark styling cues along with some modern flourishes. The pony car's side profile is a familiar riff on the original mid-century design, along with its headlamps and taillamps. The lights themselves, however, are modern LED units.

On the inside, the Mustang offers a standard leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel and bolstered buckets seats. Chrome trim pieces throughout point to the Mustang's classic muscle car heritage.

2019 Mustang Features and Technology

The new Mustang retains many of the tactile button controls and switches that drivers love, but also offers some impressive modern technology features. Rather than standard analog gauges, you can fill your gauge cluster with a 12-inch LCD display that can be tailored with the exact information that you want to see. Available Ford SYNC 3 infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is quite a popular option. You can even get several driver assistance features via the Ford Safe and Smart Package:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Rain-Sensing Wipers

2019 Mustang Models

  • Mustang EcoBoost: The base model Mustang is still plenty impressive. Its standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine makes 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Even as the most affordable Mustang model, this trim comes with standard features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

  • Mustang EcoBoost Premium: Adds upscale options to the base model. Standard features include heated and cooled leather seats, SYNC 3 infotainment, and dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Mustang GT: This model upgrades to the 5.0-liter V8 engine that makes 460 and 420 pound-feet of torque. Its standard six-speed manual transmission makes for great driving engagement.
  • Mustang GT Premium: This model brings in extra features to the already impressive Mustang GT package. Active Valve Performance Exhaust with Quad Tips offers variable exhaust volume and enhanced looks. You'll also get interior features like ambient lighting and leather upholstery.
  • Mustang Bullitt: This special edition model pays tribute to the Mustang featured in an all-time classic film. Unique green paint, a blacked-out hood, and 20 extra horsepower under the hood set this model apart.
  • Mustang Shelby GT350: The highest performing current Mustang model offers a unique 5.2-liter V8 engine with a flat-plane crank. That means you'll be able to access 525 horsepower at a 8,250-rpm redline.
