2021 Ford Mustang Mach E: An All-Electric Crossover Inspired by an American Legend

Ford is striking out into the new, exciting waters of electric vehicles, and it's first offering pays tribute to the brand's most iconic nameplate.

Ford has unveiled the all-new 2021 Mustang Mach E -- the brand's very first all-electric crossover. With just one look you can see the strong styling influence taken from the Ford Mustang sports car. However, all-electric engineering takes the Mustang Mach E in a whole new direction. Robust acceleration, zero-emission driving, and crossover versatility help to define this impressive new model.

Design and Style

Where the conventional Mustang is a two-door coupe with seating for four, the 2021 Mustang Mach E opts for a more practical design. The four-door crossover blends sleek coupe styling elements with the more versatile elements of an SUV. Certain styling elements carry over from the standard Mustang, including horizontal headlamps, a sloped fastback, and six-bar taillights. However, you'll notice that the Mustang Mach E is taller and rides higher than its gasoline counterpart.

Inside the cabin, the Mustang Mach E offers plenty of passenger space for up to five and a range of upscale amenities and options. Leather seats, push-button start, automatic climate control, all help keep passengers comfortable. Plus, a rear liftgate design and folding second-row seats mean the Mustang Mach E can accommodate quite a bit of cargo.

Engineering and Performance

Performance is where the new 2021 Mustang Mach E really aims to impress. The new model is available with either a standard range 75.7 kWh battery pack or an extended range 98.8 kWh battery pack. Rear-wheel drive models push power to an electric motor at the rear axle, while all-wheel drive models push power to both axles. Power output depends on the specific model that you choose. Lower output models make between 255 horsepower and 332 horsepower. Meanwhile, the high-performance GT model makes a hearty 459 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque.

The Mustang Mach E has exceptional range as well. With the right options, the model can go up to 300 miles before recharging. Once your battery packs are tapped, the model's Fast Charger system means you can get the power you need to keep going in no time.

Technology and Safety

The new 2021 Mustang Mach E is packed with technology features. Via the Phone As A Key system, the Mustang Mach E can automatically adjust seating position, lighting, side mirrors, and more according to your preferences. You'll also get a 15.5-inch touchscreen display and the latest generation of SYNC infotainment technology.

Driver assistance and safety technology are prominent in the Mustang Mach E too. Its standard Ford CoPilot360 2.0 package includes a range of features:

  • BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Rear View Camera
  • Auto High Beams
  • Reverse Brake Assist
  • Post-Collision Braking
  • Reverse Sensing System
