2019 Explorer Capability

Versatile features and performance keep the Explorer on the forefront of midsize SUV capability. Whether you need to tow a trailer near Commerce Township, traverse a trail near Auburn Hills, or simply take the kids to soccer practice near Pontiac, MI, the 2019 Explorer is ready to oblige.

You'll find one of three available engines under the hood, each offering plentiful power. The base engine for the Explorer is a naturally-aspirated Ti-VCT V6. Making 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, this 3.5-liter power plant is a potent tool. Optional is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Despite its smaller size, the turbocharged four-cylinder goes punch-for-punch with the V6, putting out 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there's the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Standard on the Sport and Titanium trims, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost tops the engine lineup with 365 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque.

If you anticipate towing duty for your Explorer, we recommend opting for either the Class II or Class III Trailer Tow Package. These options outfit the Explorer for trailering. With the right setup, the 2019 Explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

The new Explorer can do much more than cruise on Tarmac. Though front-wheel drive is standard for the 2019 model year, available Intelligent 4WD can allow for some off-road fun. It comes with a Terrain Management system that lets you pick from four performance settings. Each one can optimize performance parameters for a distinct type of terrain. You can also get Hill Descent Control, which manages braking to maintain stability on inclines.

2019 Explorer Interior and Features

Don't be fooled by the rugged capability -- the Explorer's cabin is a spacious, quiet, and well-equipped space.

An array of comfort features are available across various trim levels. Every Explorer comes standard with three rows of seats and space for up to seven passengers. Whether those seats are wrapped in durable cloth or supple leather depends on trim level. Available dual-zone climate control helps manage temperatures throughout the cabin. Optional sunroofs can let in night sky or bright sun.

The 2019 Explorer offers flexible cargo space, as well. The rear seating area can transform into a cargo hold with help from available third-row power fold seating. With that third row folded down, the Explorer has 43.9 cubic feet of cargo space. You expand to 81.7 cubic feet by folding down the second row.

If you have a need to stay connected, the new Explorer can accommodate it. Available SYNC 3 multimedia helps you with hands-free calling, Bluetooth streaming, smartphone connectivity, and much more. You can even connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot with available FordPass Connect.

2019 Explorer Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Ford has taken steps to help improve safety technology in all of its vehicles, including the 2019 Explorer. This is evident with the available Ford Safe and Smart Package.
